The author is a distinguished physician, researcher, educator, and medical administrator. His award-winning book, Lives of a cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher(1974), is a collection of his scientific articles written on various occasions. He is also the author of Medusa and the Snail: More notes of a Biology Watcher(1979), and the essay: On Warts " is taken from that book.

In the essay, Thomas sets forth what scientists know about warts, and speculating about both causes and effects, he probes the unsolved mystery of these odd growths. Warts can be cured, but what no one understands  exactly how the cure works. Is it by science or by magic?

Warts are  small hard benign growth on the skin caused by the virus. Warts are caused by the virus that can appear anywhere on our body. The wart cells are the elaborate reproductive apparatus of a wart virus.

The strangest thing about warts is that they tend to go away, they come to the end of their lives and vanish without a trace. They can be made to go away by something that can only be called thinking, or something like thinking. This is a special property of warts which is astonishing. it is one of the great mysteries of science: warts can be ordered off the skin by hypnotic suggestion.

The writer says the cure for warts is magical. The unconscious mind can prompt warts to disappear when conventional treatment fails to still not fully known. Hence, a patient has more chance to heal.

Warts are treated by tissue rejection when warts appear, they are treated by the rejection of the mind as tissue. But the writer does not wholly believe it, he wants to practise it by himself. If warts can be treated by the mental apparatus, they are nothing more than labor. Whatever might be in the treatment of warts, the whole biological, medical, or psychological treatment goes with immunology. It is immunology when we talk about blood supply, rejection of the tissue, or hypnotic behavior.

Warts are treated with a kind of super-intelligence that we all have. There is always a sort of conflict about it. it has been mystic to the science to know about warts, the cause of warts is biological but the treatment is magical.
